MINNEAPOLIS, October 8, 2013 – The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS®), the leading association for professionals in analytics, today announced that Arthur Geoffrion, the James A. Collins Professor of Management Emeritus at UCLA’s Anderson School of Management, was named the 2013 recipient of the INFORMS President’s Award.
“The 2013 INFORMS President’s Award is awarded to Arthur Geoffrion for his seminal contributions in the field of management science and operations research, his leadership in connecting OR/MS theory to practice, and his influential mentoring and teaching of OR/MS professionals who continue to use his ideas and applications to impact business, government, and greater society,” said INFORMS President Anne Robinson of Verizon Wireless, speaking at the INFORMS Annual Meeting in Minnesota.
The INFORMS President’s Award is presented to recognize and encourage important contributions to the welfare of society by operations researchers at the local, national, and global level. The award committee includes the current INFORMS president and the two most recent past presidents.
The award citation read, in part, “Arthur Geoffrion is recognized for his impact in optimization theory and its applications. He has authored over 60 scholarly papers, written chapters of over a half-dozen books, and contributed many opinion pieces. His editorial service includes eight years as Department Editor ofManagement Science, positions withother journalsas well as several editorial advisory boards…

Arthur Geoffrion is a former president of both INFORMS and one of its predecessor societies, The Institute of Management Sciences (TIMS).
The award was presented at a ceremony at the Minneapolis Convention Center on Sunday, October 6 during the INFORMS 2013 Annual Meeting. The meeting, from October 6-9, brings together 4,000 leading professionals and researchers in Big Data, analytics, operations research, and management science.
