CATONSVILLE, MD, September 9, 2020 – INFORMS, the largest international association of operations research (O.R.) and analytics professionals and students, has officially named 12 outstanding members as Fellows, one of the highest honors in the O.R. profession. The 2020 INFORMS Fellows will be inducted during the Virtual 2020 INFORMS Annual Meeting, November 7–13. INFORMS Fellows are honored for their outstanding lifetime accomplishments and contributions in operations research and analytics.
2020 INFORMS Honorary Fellows
Susan Albin is a professor of industrial engineering at Rutgers University. She is known for her research in quality engineering, queueing theory and industrial process monitoring. She was the 2010 president of INFORMS, and former editor-in-chief of IIE Transactions (now IISE Transactions), the flagship journal of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers.
Saif Benjaafar is a distinguished McKnight University professor at the University of Minnesota. He is head of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering and director of the Initiative on the Sharing Economy. He has broad research interests in operations management, supply chains, and service systems with a current focus on sustainable operations and innovative business models, including sharing economy and on-demand services. He is the current editor-in-chief of the INFORMS journal Service Science.
Manoj Chari is the director of Data Science at Otis Elevator Company, where he leads a team focused on predictive models for elevator health implemented on an Internet of Things based platform. Before joining Otis, Chari spent 16 years at SAS Institute Inc. where he reached the position of senior director of Advanced Analytics Research and Development. He played a leadership role in building the O.R. related software products and service capabilities at SAS. He chaired the 2015 INFORMS Business Analytics Conference and has served on several prize committees. He has also served on the INFORMS Roundtable.
David Goldsman is the director of Master’s Programs and professor in the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. His research interests include simulation output analysis, statistical ranking and selection methods, and medical and humanitarian applications of operations research. He served as president of the INFORMS Simulation Society and as the chair of the INFORMS Public Awareness Committee. He also received the INFORMS Simulation Society's Distinguished Service Award.
Oleg Gusikhin is IoT and Analytics Innovation Technical Leader at Ford Motor Company. He is also a part-time professor at the University of Michigan in the College of Engineering and served 16 years as a panelist for the National Science Foundation (NSF). Gusikhin is a previous winner of the INFORMS Daniel H. Wagner Prize for Excellence in Operations Research Practice.
Illya Hicks is a professor in the Department of Computational and Applied Mathematics at Rice University. His research interests are in combinatorial optimization, integer programming, graph theory and matroid theory. Some applications of interest are social networks, cancer treatment and network design. Hicks is a member of the Minority Issues Forum at INFORMS and won the 2005 Optimization Prize for Young Researchers within INFORMS Optimization Society as well as the 2010 Forum Moving Spirit Award.
Jionghua (Judy) Jin is a professor in the Department of Industrial and Operations Engineering and the director of Manufacturing Program of Integrative Systems and Design Division at the University of Michigan. Her research interests are in data fusion and analytics in quality engineering with primary applications in manufacturing. She served as vice president of International Activities for INFORMS and chair for INFORMS Quality, Statistics and Reliability section.
Janny Leung is a professor in the Choi Kai Yau College of the University of Macau. Before returning to Hong Kong she was a faculty member at Yale University and University of Arizona.Her main research interests are combinatorial optimization, transportation logistics and operational research. In Hong Kong, she has collaborated with local companies on projects involving workforce scheduling, facility layout, supply chain management and public transit planning.
Nelson Maculan is a professor of optimization in the Department of Systems Engineering and Computer Science in the Graduate School of Engineering at COPPE, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. His research interests are in mathematical programming, operations research, computer science, numerical analysis, applied mathematics and bioinformatics.
Glenn Wegryn, CAP, is the executive director of the University of Cincinnati Center for Business Analytics. He previously spent 28 years at Procter & Gamble, notably as the creator and leader of P&G’s award-winning Supply Chain Analytics group. The work was recognized by INFORMS as a finalist for the Franz Edelman Award in 1996. He is an INFORMS Certified Analytics Professional (CAP), serves as president of the INFORMS Analytics Section and is a 10-year veteran of the Business Roundtable.
Assaf Zeevi is professor and holder of the Kravis chair at the Graduate School of Business, Columbia University. His research and teaching interests lie at the intersection of operations research, statistics and machine learning. Assaf’s work has been applied in online retail, healthcare analytics, dynamic pricing, recommender systems and social learning in online marketplaces.
Stefanos Zenios is the Investment Group of Santa Barbara Professor of Entrepreneurship and professor of operations, information, and technology at Stanford University. He is also the faculty codirector of Stanford GSB’s Center for Entrepreneurial Studies. His research interests are mainly in innovation and healthcare. He served as editor-in-chief of Operations Research from 2012–2017.
