D.C. Policy Panels on Energy, Environment, Health Care, Aviation Precede U.S. Presidential Election

HANOVER, MD, September 12, 2008 – Seeking new policy tools to tackle major problems in energy, the environment, health care, and aviation will be the subject of a series of major speeches and panels held three weeks before the U.S. Presidential election at the annual meeting of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS®).

The series, “Doing Good with Good O.R,” (operations research) will take place in Washington, D.C. at the Marriott Waldman Park Hotel and Omni Shoreham Hotel. It will be held on October 14 and 15. Information about the series is here. Information about the conference is here.

The plenary speakers are former U.S. Rep. Philip R. Sharp of the think tank Resources for the Future, Dr. Carolyn M. Clancy, Director of the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and Dorothy Robyn of the Brattle Group (www.brattle.com).

(Note: Dr. Robyn replaces JetBlue President Russell Chew, originally scheduled to present).

Operations research, which is associated with techniques like business intelligence and analytics, is the discipline of applying advanced analytical methods to help make better decisions. Information about operations research is at www.scienceofbetter.org.
